The beautiful cathedral city of Wells in Somerset is located on the edge of the Mendip Hills and is one of the smallest cities in the United Kingdom. The Saxons built a church here in AD 704 and a settlement continued to grow around it. Wells was also listed in the Domesday Book of 1086 and in the early part of the 13th Century Wells gained its city status.
